Top Five Calorie Burning Exercises

Top Five Calorie Burning Exercises

In conjunction with a well-balanced diet, getting enough exercise is essential for weight loss. There are plenty of different activities and classes you can take to get your exercise. Find ones that you enjoy and incorporate them into your daily or weekly routine, and you’ll notice the results in your energy, mood and weight loss. Calories burned should not be the only focus of your workouts, but it is a good measure of how intense a particular exercise is. Here are some exercises that burn the most calories:

Rollerblading

Rollerblading was a popular exercise in the 90s and is making a comeback, as people are realizing its potency as a workout. It is one of the top calorie-burning exercises, coming in at 683 calories per hour in a 200-pound person. The side-to-side motion is great for toning your thighs, and you work your core consistently in order to keep your balance. Rollerblading can also improve your flexibility and coordination.

Playing Tennis

At 728 calories burned per hour in a 200-pound person, singles tennis is another top calorie-burning exercise. It is a high-intensity workout, with intervals of sprinting and plenty of stop-start movements. It also improves flexibility and hand-eye coordination, while burning fat.

Running Up Stairs

Climbing stairs is a great way to strengthen and tone your legs. Running up stairs, either outside or on a step machine, will give you these same benefits in addition to all the benefits of cardio. Running up stairs burns 819 calories per hour in a 200-pound person, making it one of the most intense exercises you can do. Running up a staircase, down and then up again is also a great way to interval train. This will make you burn fat quicker, and take your fitness to a new level.

Running

Running is tied with jumping rope as the top calorie-burning exercise, burning roughly 1,074 calories per hour in a 200-pound person. In addition to weight loss, running has countless benefits, such as improving joint and bone strength. It has also been shown to prevent chronic disease, such as certain cancers, type 2 diabetes and heart disease, among others. With its calorie-torching and other health benefits, running is one of the best exercises for you.

Jumping Rope

Jumping rope is one of the best cardiovascular exercises. Someone weighing 200 pounds will burn 1,074 calories per hour jumping rope, while strengthening their upper and lower body. It’s also a much lower impact than running or other cardio exercises. It is the preferred workout for people with stiff joints, who still want to get their heart rate up. There are different variations and styles you can use when jumping rope, but even just jumping in place will provide you all the benefits you need.

Combine Diet and Exercise

Although some of the top calorie-burning exercises are primarily outdoor activities, there are plenty more exercises you can do to increase your endurance and lose weight. Unfortunately, exercising on its own doesn’t do much to make you lose weight, and will be ineffective unless it’s paired with a healthy diet. If you want to slim down, we suggest talking to a doctor about a healthy diet and weight for you.
