New Study Finds That Meal Timing Has A Huge Affect On Weight Loss
A formerly fit nation, the United States is in the midst of an obesity epidemic. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), around two-thirds of American adults are either overweight or obese. Our ever-expanding national waistline is costing us beaucoup bucks in health care costs and threatens to shorten life expectancy for the first time in recent memory–obesity is now the number one form of preventable death in America!
What are we doing wrong?
We all know that fast food and sugary snacks are bad for our bodies. But did you also know that when you eat might be just as important as what you eat. A new study completed at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston found that meal time is a crucial factor in dieting.
The results
After observing 420 overweight participants for a 20-week weight-loss treatment program, researchers came to the following conclusion: people who eat their main meal earlier in the day lost significantly more weight when dieting than those that ate later in the day. Why is this?
Because we’re often famished after a good night’s sleep, our bodies burn those breakfast calories far more efficiently than calories that are consumed later in the day. The study also found that people who eat later may be at a higher risk for diabetes due to lower estimated insulin sensitivity.
