Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox, a form of the botulinum toxin, is most commonly used to reduce wrinkles and lines in the face. However, the providers at Dr. G’s Weight Loss & Wellness use Botox as a treatment for a variety of aesthetic conditions, including:

  • Strabismus, or crossed eyes
  • Crow’s feet
  • Excessive sweating
  • Severe neck and shoulder spasms
  • Blepharospasm, or spasm of the eyelids
  • Hemifacial spasms

What can I expect during Botox treatment?

Botox treatment is a simple outpatient procedure that requires little preparation on your part. Your Dr. G’s provider will create a saline solution containing Botox and inject the compound directly into the treatment area. Botox prevents the treated muscles from contracting and producing wrinkles.

Depending on the area treated, you may require between one and three injections per muscle. You should feel little to no pain during the injections, and the entire procedure takes less than 10 minutes.

Results are typically visible within 24 to 72 hours.

Can I go back to work after Botox?

Botox treatment typically requires no downtime, and you can return to work right away; many people have the procedure done on their lunch break.

You should avoid touching or massaging the affected area for up to four hours following treatment to avoid accidentally spreading the toxin. Your Dr. G’s provider may also recommend you avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours following treatment.

How long does Botox last?

Most Botox treatments produce results that last up to four months. As time passes, you may start noticing fine lines and wrinkles returning, and you can schedule another Botox appointment.

The more Botox treatments you get, the more your muscles learn to relax. As time goes on, you may find that you need fewer and fewer sessions and that your skin remains wrinkle-free longer.

If you’re ready to eliminate saggy facial skin and wrinkles, call Dr. G’s Weight Loss & Wellness to schedule a consultation.
