What Every Dieter Should Know about Water Weight

Have you ever wondered why your weight can fluctuate by several pounds each day? Well, when you step on a scale, it measures everything in your body at that moment, from bones to muscles to fat and organs. Of course, it also weighs the amount of fluids you have in your system, which can vary greatly from hour to hour. That is the main reason why boxers and wrestlers can “sweat off” five, even ten pounds before a bout.

Although seldom as extreme for dieters, losing water weight can give you an inaccurate measure of how much weight you are or are not losing. That goes double if you are someone who imbibes a lot of fluids. At any given time, you could be five or more pounds lighter or heavier than you were the day before, which can make dieting even more confusing than it already is.

The best advice we can give you is not too get too caught up in numbers. Weight loss is all about how you look and feel, not about the scale. As long as your energy is improving and you feel leaner and fitter, it probably means your diet is working.
